David Okereke records first Benevento assist in win over Cesena

Nigerian forward David Okereke registered his first assist for Benevento Calcio as the Yellow and Reds secured a 2-0 victory over Cesena FC in their Serie B Matchday 6 encounter at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Okereke provided the assist for the opening goal as Benevento extended their winning streak to three consecutive matches, continuing their encouraging run of form.

The 29-year-old combined with Antonis Siatounis to break the deadlock in the 24th minute, giving the hosts an early lead in front of their home supporters. Benevento maintained their advantage until half-time.

Okereke remained a threat to the Cesena defence before being substituted in the 62nd minute for Christian Dalle Mura.

The Nigerian forward also recorded three shots, matching the joint-highest tally in the match, as he contributed significantly to Benevento’s attacking efforts.

Following his goal in the 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona, Okereke has now recorded two goal contributions in five appearances this season.

Substitute Luigi Cherubini sealed the victory for Benevento in the second minute of stoppage time, finding the net in the 90+2nd minute to confirm the hosts’ 2-0 triumph.

The result extended Benevento’s winning run to three matches, providing further encouragement as the club continues its Serie B campaign.

The latest contribution comes shortly after Okereke was named the Serie B Goal of the Month winner for September.

The Nigerian claimed the individual accolade after scoring a spectacular long-range effort in Benevento’s 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona.

With the match level at 1-1, Okereke collected the ball outside the penalty area in the 59th minute before unleashing a powerful right-footed strike into the top corner, leaving Verona goalkeeper Nicola Leali with little chance of making a save.

His impressive finish earned him the award ahead of Modena striker Andrea Belotti and Cremonese youngster Adin Ličina.

The recognition has further raised expectations surrounding the forward, who joined Benevento on a free transfer in August following his departure from fellow Serie B side Cremonese.

With a goal and an assist now to his name this season, Okereke will be hoping to maintain his momentum and play an increasingly important role in Benevento’s campaign.
