Eric Chelle raises alarm over internal opposition amid uncertain Super Eagles contract talks

Head coach of the Nigerian national team, Eric Chelle, has hinted that unseen forces may be working against his continued stay with the Super Eagles as uncertainty surrounds his contract situation with the Nigeria Football Federation.

The coach, who guided Nigeria to a third place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations, revealed that certain individuals appear to be uncomfortable with his presence at the helm despite having one year remaining on his current deal.

Discussions over a possible contract extension reportedly began after the team’s impressive performance at the continental tournament.

The proposal, which could have seen Chelle remain in charge for an additional two years, was said to have the support of both the football federation and the National Sports Commission.

However, negotiations have recently lost momentum following the leak of details relating to Chelle’s contract demands. The disclosure sparked widespread debate in the media and coincided with reports linking the coach with a possible move to Olympique de Marseille.

Reacting to the development, Chelle expressed disappointment that confidential discussions were made public, suggesting the leak might have been orchestrated by individuals attempting to undermine his position.

Despite the tension surrounding the negotiations, the Super Eagles manager insisted he remains focused on his duties and committed to the team.

He reiterated that his contract with the federation still runs for another year and affirmed his readiness to continue leading the national side during that period.
