DR Congo unveil World Cup Playoffs roster as Nigeria protest hangs in the balance
Despite the unresolved protest filed by the Nigeria Football Federation, the Democratic Republic of the Congo have moved forward with preparations for the upcoming intercontinental playoff, unveiling their squad ahead of the decisive clash later this month.
Head coach Sébastien Desabre announced the Leopards’ squad on Wednesday as the team intensifies preparations for the crucial playoff scheduled to take place in Mexico City, Mexico.
DR Congo earned their place in the final playoff stage after defeating the Nigeria national football team in a dramatic penalty shootout during the African qualifying playoff.
The victory secured the Leopards a pathway to the intercontinental round, where a spot at the FIFA World Cup is at stake.
However, the outcome of that encounter remains under review following a formal complaint submitted to FIFA by Nigerian football authorities.
The protest seeks a reassessment of the circumstances surrounding the match, raising uncertainty over the final status of the result.
With the intercontinental playoff fast approaching, it is still unclear whether FIFA will issue a ruling on Nigeria’s protest before the scheduled fixture.
In the meantime, DR Congo appear determined not to be distracted by the ongoing dispute, pressing ahead with squad preparations as they aim to secure qualification for the World Cup through the final playoff hurdle.
