The Federal Government on Tuesday fulfilled its long-awaited reward promises to the Super Falcons, with Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, presenting the package to the players in Rabat, Morocco, just hours before the team's opening match of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The presentation, confirmed by the NFF through its official X account, marked a significant milestone in the government's commitment to honouring the promises made to the players following their victorious 2025 WAFCON campaign, where they captured a record-extending 10th African title.

For weeks, Dikko had repeatedly reassured both the players and the Nigerian public that the reward package was progressing through the necessary government approval processes, dismissing concerns that the promises had been abandoned.

While the handover has now taken place, the full details of the package remain unclear. Neither the NSC nor the NFF has disclosed the exact components presented in Rabat, including whether all members of the squad received title documents for the promised houses or if only part of the package was delivered. Further clarification is expected from the relevant authorities in the coming days.

The timing of the presentation was particularly symbolic, as the Super Falcons later took to the pitch at the Al Madina Stadium to face WAFCON debutants Malawi in their opening Group C fixture, beginning their quest for a record 11th continental title.

Beyond defending their African crown, Nigeria will also be competing for one of four automatic qualification tickets to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil, making every match in Morocco crucial.

The government's decision to fulfil the reward promises before the opening fixture is expected to lift morale within the squad, particularly after concerns over outstanding incentives threatened to overshadow preparations for the tournament. By resolving the issue before kickoff, the players can now focus fully on their mission of retaining the WAFCON title.

The gesture followed another recognition for one of Nigeria's standout performers. On Monday, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau presented Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie with the certificate of ownership for a house donated by Jedo Investment Company Limited in recognition of her successful defence of the CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The brief ceremony, witnessed by the NFF's Director of Competitions, Ruth David, was also confirmed by the federation via its official X account.

The latest reward further highlights the growing recognition of the Super Falcons' achievements from both the government and private sector, reinforcing the team's status as Africa's most successful women's national side and providing additional motivation as they embark on another quest for continental glory.
