Flamingos 11-game unbeaten streak end in seven-goal thriller
The Flamingos impressive 11-match unbeaten streak came to an end in Casablanca after a pulsating 4–3 defeat to New Zealand in a friendly encounter on Friday.
Nigeria started brightly, taking the lead in the 13th minute when Queen Joseph latched onto a brilliant through ball to slot home the opener. New Zealand equalized shortly after, but Shakirat Moshood restored the Flamingos advantage with a stunning long-range strike before halftime.
The second half produced a flurry of goals as New Zealand’s Laura Bennett grabbed a superb hat-trick, keeping the contest end-to-end. Ayo’s fine strike brought Nigeria level at 3–3, but the Kiwis had the final say, Candy Sienna’s 80th-minute effort sealing victory for the Oceania side.
Despite the loss, the Flamingos attacking form remains impressive, with 47 goals scored, and only four conceded in their last 12 outings.
Bankole Olowookere’s girls will now turn their attention to their final warm-up fixture against Paraguay before heading to Rabat for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
