Four NPFL players earn international call-ups ahead of October fixtures
Four players from three Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs have earned international call-ups, providing another boost to the domestic league’s growing contribution to national-team football.
Rangers International defender Kenneth Igboke, Ikorodu City duo Aderemi Adeoye and Michael Atata, and Katsina United goalkeeper Frank Koroma are the four NPFL players selected for international duty ahead of the upcoming fixtures.
Igboke, Adeoye and Atata have been invited to the Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia in October.
The trio will have the opportunity to stake their claims in the senior national team setup as the Super Eagles prepare for the international assignment.
Igboke has been one of the domestic players attracting attention at Rangers International, while Adeoye and Atata have continued to feature prominently for Ikorodu City in the NPFL.
Their invitations represent recognition of the performances of players competing in Nigeria’s top-flight domestic league and provide another pathway for NPFL talents to progress to the international stage.
Meanwhile, Katsina United goalkeeper Frank Koroma has earned a call-up to the Sierra Leone national team for the country’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Koroma’s invitation gives him an opportunity to represent Sierra Leone at senior international level while further increasing the presence of NPFL players in national-team programmes across Africa.
The four selections also underline the role of the NPFL in providing a platform for players to attract international attention without necessarily having to secure moves to foreign leagues before earning national-team recognition.
For Rangers, Ikorodu City and Katsina United, the call-ups provide additional recognition of the quality within their respective squads and the potential of their players.
