Green Falcons land in Canada for Women's Rugby League World Series showdown
Nigeria’s women’s national rugby league team, the Green Falcons, have touched down in Canada ahead of the Women’s Rugby League World Series.
The team departed Nigeria on Friday, October 17, after rounding off an intense training camp in Lagos. Their preparations included a dominant warm-up series against Ghana’s women’s team, where the Falcons soared to emphatic victories — a 40–0 win in the first game and a convincing 24–8 triumph in the second.
The 19-player squad representing Nigeria in Canada features Success Iyoha, Blessing Funmilayo Aladeyelu, Ukwuoma Endurance, Umude Blessing, Shondell Akhabue, Innocent Adaeza, Adeola King, Rukayat Akinade, Fedelia Omoghan, Daneyelle Shobanjo, Siobhan Sheerin, Faustina Akeje, Becky Okitikpe, Catherine Akeje, Rachel Iliya, Chinaza Abbah, Vera Pedro, Lauretta Bayere, and Abiola Obazuaye. Aminah Oluwabunmi joins the team as a development and injury cover player.
Leading the contingent is Vice Chairman Ade Adebisi and General Manager Isah Saulawa. The technical bench includes head coach Bolu Fagborn and assistant coach Luke Sheerman, with media operations managed by veteran broadcaster Mozez Praiz. Domestic preparations were coordinated by Samson Okeowooluseye and Oneta.
The Green Falcons will face Ireland Women in the semi-final on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 9 p.m., while hosts Canada Women take on Fiji Women in the other semi-final.
Winners from both fixtures will advance to the Women’s Rugby League World Series Final, with the ultimate champion securing a coveted slot at the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup.
