Middle East tensions force relocation of four nations tournament involving Super Eagles

Plans to stage an international four nation friendly tournament in Jordan have been altered, with the competition now set to take place in the Turkish city of Antalya.

According to the Jordan Football Association, the decision to move the tournament was influenced by the prevailing political situation in the Middle East, which could affect travel arrangements and the smooth organisation of the event.

In a statement released by the federation, officials explained that relocating the competition would ensure easier movement for teams, officials and supporters.

“The Jordanian Football Association has decided to move the matches of the four team international friendly tournament, scheduled for March 2026, to be held in the Turkish city of Antalya, due to the current situation in the region and the limited movement of people,” the statement noted.

The mini tournament will feature the Nigeria national football team, hosts Jordan national football team, the Iran national football team and the Costa Rica national football team.

For Nigeria, the competition offers an opportunity for the Super Eagles’ technical crew to assess players and fine tune tactics ahead of crucial international fixtures later in the year.

The tournament is also expected to provide competitive preparation for the other participating nations as they build toward their respective continental and global assignments.

The matches in Antalya are anticipated to attract considerable attention as four teams from different football regions clash in what promises to be a valuable preparatory series.
