Minister of Arts, Culture congratulates Autistic teen Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke for setting second Guinness World record
The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has congratulated 16-year-old non-verbal autistic teenager, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, on achieving his second Guinness World Record — this time as the youngest person to cycle 100 miles (160.9 km).
The remarkable feat marks Kanyeyachukwu’s second certified record with Guinness World Records, following his historic recognition last year for creating the largest painting on canvas by an individual, unveiled in Abuja. Together, the two records firmly establish him as one of Nigeria’s most extraordinary young achievers.
Kanyeyachukwu began his cycling journey from Enugu State on 14 March 2026, traversed seven states, and triumphantly concluded the ride in Lagos on World Autism Awareness Day, 2 April 2026. The symbolic finish underscored his mission to raise awareness for autism and promote inclusion.
Commending his determination, Minister Musawa stated that Kanyeyachukwu’s journey “crosses geography and expectation,” highlighting his stamina, imagination, and quiet courage. She emphasized that Nigeria’s creative economy must embrace diverse forms of expression, including those of non-verbal individuals.
The Minister also announced plans to support national exhibitions of Kanyeyachukwu’s artwork and youth-focused programmes that connect creativity with advocacy, particularly around autism awareness.
In addition, Musawa praised Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, for the warm reception given to the young champion. She also lauded his pledge of ₦200 million in support of autism advocacy and the Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke Foundation.
Kanyeyachukwu’s achievements go beyond record-breaking. Through his work and advocacy, he continues to challenge stigma, promote inclusion, and call for stronger government policies to support families and caregivers. He is also raising funds to train 1,000 caregivers, further expanding his impact within the autism community.
The Ministry is set to host him in Abuja for a youth creativity forum focused on non-verbal expression, endurance storytelling, and community participation in Nigeria’s arts and tourism sectors.
