Morocco hosts U-17 AFCON 2026 with opener against Tunisia
The U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 will officially kick off on May 13 at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, featuring a thrilling opening clash between host nation and defending champions Morocco against Tunisia. The Atlas Cubs, who lifted the trophy in the previous edition held on home soil, aim to assert their dominance once again as the tournament runs from May 13 to June 2.
Morocco’s participation reflects the momentum of the national training project led by the FRMF, showcasing a generation of players who are technically and athletically superior. Hosting the competition goes beyond logistics—it demonstrates the coherence and global recognition of Morocco’s football model, highlighting the country’s growing continental and international ambitions.
As co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Morocco is steadily positioning itself as a hub for African and global football. Additionally, the tournament carries a qualifying dimension, with the continent’s top teams competing for coveted FIFA U-17 World Cup spots, providing this generation of players with crucial global exposure.
The competition will be held across two venues. The Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat will host the opening match, semi-finals, and final, adding a sense of ceremony to the event.
