NFF outlines Super Falcons road to Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has outlined the senior women's national team's route to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, expressing confidence that the 10-time African champions can secure a second consecutive appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
Super Falcons returned to the Olympic stage at the Paris 2024 Games and will now begin their campaign for another qualification with a second-round clash against Comoros.
Both legs of the tie will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, with the first encounter scheduled for October 9 and the return leg four days later on October 13.
The Super Falcons, one of the three highest-ranked teams in the African qualifying series, received a bye into the second round. Comoros, meanwhile, booked their place after recording a remarkable 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
Nigeria must negotiate four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to claim one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles tournament.
Should the Falcons eliminate Comoros, they will advance to the third round, scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027, where they could face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco.
A place in the fourth round would then set up another two-legged battle against one of Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic or Mali between October 4 and 12, 2027.
The final stage of the qualifying race is scheduled for November 23 to December 4, 2027. At that stage, Nigeria could face Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Algeria or Burkina Faso.
With two Olympic tickets available to African teams, the Super Falcons will need to navigate the demanding qualifying path successfully to make another appearance on the global stage in Los Angeles.
