Turkey: Onuachu ends goal drought in style
Paul Onuachu rediscovered his goalscoring touch in emphatic fashion on Sunday, netting twice as Trabzonspor swept aside Gençlerbirliği 5-0 in a dominant Turkish Süper Lig display.
After failing to score in his opening three league appearances of the campaign, the Nigerian striker wasted no time breaking his duck.
Onuachu opened the scoring in just the fifth minute, giving Trabzonspor an early advantage and ending his wait for a league goal.
The towering forward was far from finished.
In the 22nd minute, Onuachu struck again after being picked out by Wagner Pina, completing his first brace of the season and putting Trabzonspor firmly in control at 3-0 before the interval.
The two goals marked a significant return to form for Onuachu, who had endured a frustrating start to his league campaign.
His quick fire brace not only boosted his personal tally but also underlined his importance to Trabzonspor’s attacking ambitions.
Onuachu’s clinical finishing helped set the tone for an outstanding team performance, with Mohamed Salah also finding the net from the penalty spot in the first half before Ernest Muçi and Franculino Dju added further goals after the break.
For Onuachu, however, the night belonged to the Nigerian striker. His first half double provided the perfect response to his barren opening three league matches and offered a timely reminder of the goalscoring threat he can pose when given the opportunity.
