NLO begins desciplinary proceedings against clubs over alleged participation in unauthorized league
The Nationwide League One (NLO) has commenced disciplinary proceedings against clubs allegedly involved in an unauthorised competition, warning that offenders risk suspension or expulsion.
The NLO declared the N-Youth League unauthorised for the 2026/2027 season and directed its affiliated clubs to withdraw from the competition immediately or face possible sanctions.
According to the league, the organisers of the N-Youth League have yet to provide documentary evidence of valid approval from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other relevant authorities for the current season.
NLO Chief Operating Officer, Dr Olushola Ogunnowo, stressed that affiliated clubs must comply with established football regulations, noting that registration with the league carries obligations that cannot be disregarded.
The league cited Article 3:01 (6) of its Rules and Regulations, which prohibits registered clubs and players from participating in private leagues operating outside the recognised national football structure.
It also clarified that any approval granted by the NFF for the N-Youth League during the 2024/2025 season would not automatically authorise the competition to operate in subsequent seasons.
The NLO disclosed that disciplinary proceedings against the affected clubs were already under way. It added that suspension or expulsion could follow if violations were established through the prescribed disciplinary procedures.
The league further advised its affiliated clubs to verify the regulatory status of competitions before accepting invitations to participate. Clubs were also urged to report suspicious offers to the NLO Secretariat.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Nigerian football, the NLO said it would continue to enforce compliance with established regulations and maintain proper oversight of competitions under its jurisdiction.
