NOC takes coaching development up a notch with Abuja Badminton Course
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is set to host the International Olympic Committee/Badminton Federation of Nigeria (IOC/BFN) Badminton Technical Coaching Course Level 2 in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen coaching standards and accelerate the development of the sport in Nigeria.
The nine day programme is scheduled to run from September 4 to 12, 2026, bringing together selected badminton coaches and technical personnel from across the country for an intensive blend of theoretical and practical sessions.
The advanced coaching course is designed to equip participants with modern technical knowledge, practical coaching skills and contemporary methodologies required to effectively nurture and prepare badminton athletes for national and international competitions.
Key areas to be covered during the programme include modern coaching techniques, technical and tactical development, athlete preparation, training planning, talent identification, competition management and the application of international badminton standards.
The initiative underscores the NOC’s commitment to using education, capacity building and continuous professional development as key tools for strengthening Nigeria’s sporting ecosystem. It is also expected to raise the quality of badminton coaching and improve the pathway for identifying and developing young talents with international potential.
NOC Secretary General, Abba Ado Gumel, will coordinate the programme, while NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel, is expected to officially declare the course open.
The NOC has also called on stakeholders within the sports sector to support the initiative, describing sustained investment in coaching education as essential to achieving sporting excellence and building a stronger future for badminton in Nigeria.
