Doma United maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after edging Inter Lagos 1-0 on Matchday Two over the weekend, while Kano Pillars survived a late Niger Tornadoes fightback to claim a thrilling 3-2 victory.

Doma United’s victory at Inter Lagos means the Gombe-based side have collected the maximum six points from their opening two matches without conceding a goal.

The impressive start places Doma United among the early pace-setters as the new NPFL campaign begins to take shape.

Kano Pillars produced the most dramatic result of the matchday, defeating Niger Tornadoes 3-2 in a five-goal northern derby.

The hosts appeared to be cruising after opening up a commanding 3-0 lead, but Niger Tornadoes fought back strongly with two goals to set up a tense finish.

Pillars, however, held on to secure all three points and avoid surrendering their advantage.

Plateau United also recorded their first win of the campaign, defeating Kwara United 1-0, while Nasarawa United secured an identical home victory over Bendel Insurance.

The matchday also produced two goalless draws, with Kun Khalifat and Barau FC sharing the points.

Ranchers Bees were scheduled to host Abia Warriors, with the fixture now set for September 7.

Three other Matchday Two fixtures were postponed due to the participating clubs’ involvement in CAF inter-club competitions.

The postponed matches are Enyimba International versus Shooting Stars, Katsina United versus Rivers United, and Warri Wolves versus Rangers International.

Sporting Lagos versus Ikorodu City has also been rescheduled for September 30.

The postponements mean the NPFL standings remain incomplete, with several clubs having games in hand as they balance domestic league commitments with their continental campaigns.

Doma United’s early form, however, has been particularly encouraging, with two victories and two consecutive clean sheets.

Their ability to grind out narrow wins while maintaining a watertight defence could make them a team to watch as the season progresses.

With several Matchday Two fixtures still outstanding, the early NPFL race remains wide open, but Doma United have already made one of the strongest statements of the opening weeks.
