NPFL Youth League: Remo Stars top Ikenne zone after Matchday two

The battle for supremacy in the Ikenne Zone of the 2025 NPFL Youth League is quickly shaping up to be a two-horse race between Remo Stars and Ikorodu City. However, Remo Stars head coach Ajobolade Olumide insists his focus isn't on the table standings.

After two rounds of matches, both sides are level on points, but Remo Stars top the group courtesy of a superior goal difference, thanks to their emphatic 4-1 win over Shooting Stars on matchday two. Ikorodu City stayed close behind with a solid 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars. Bendel Insurance sits in third place with three points after edging Kwara United 2-1.

Speaking to NPFL Media, Coach Olumide played down any talk of a title chase or rivalry, emphasizing development over results.

“We’re really not very interested in our position on the log,” he said confidently. “We are, however, going to compete to the best of our abilities. This is another competition to assess our development, which is what the team is about.”

Despite the growing anticipation around a potential showdown with Ikorodu City, Olumide insists he doesn’t view the Lagos side as a threat but rather as a welcome challenge.

“We welcome the challenge to test our setup. We and Ikorodu City don’t often get to face each other. Hence, we welcome the opportunity,” he added.

The teams will observe a rest day today before returning to action tomorrow for Matchday 3.
