Key decisions loom as NFF, power brokers converge in Yenegoa
All eyes turn to Yenagoa as the city prepares to host a crucial Extraordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation on Monday, March 23, 2026 an event expected to shape the administrative and electoral future of Nigerian football.
The high stakes gathering will be officially declared open by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, setting the stage for deliberations that go beyond routine football administration.
Top government and sports stakeholders are expected to grace the occasion, including Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, the Commission’s Director General Bukola Olopade, Senate Committee on Sports Chairman Abdul Ningi, and House Committee on Sports Chairman Kabiru Amadu.
The assembly will bring together a wide spectrum of Nigerian football stakeholders Chairmen and Secretaries of Football Associations from all 36 states and the FCT, members of the NFF Executive Committee and Management, as well as representatives from the leagues, coaches, referees, and players’ union.
In his opening remarks, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau is expected to set the tone before Congress moves into a decisive business session.
Central to discussions will be proposed amendments to key governance frameworks, including the NFF Statutes, Electoral Code, and Standing Orders.
The assembly will also oversee the appointment of members into the NFF Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, alongside the selection of an Independent Auditor decisions that could influence upcoming elections within the federation.
Adding international weight to the proceedings, officials from FIFA and Confederation of African Football are already in the country to observe the congress, underlining the significance of the event.
With major governance and electoral matters on the agenda, the Yenagoa assembly is shaping up to be more than just a meeting it is a defining moment for the direction of football administration in Nigeria.
