Samson Adamu arrives Uganda for first assignment as CAF General Secretary
Newly confirmed Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary, Samson Adamu, has arrived in Uganda for his first official assignment since his appointment to the position.
Adamu is in the East African country alongside a delegation of CAF officials for an executive inspection of facilities ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The inspection forms part of CAF’s preparations and monitoring activities to assess the readiness of the three host nations as they work towards delivering the continental showpiece.
The visit is also expected to feature a series of high-level meetings and a special function, with CAF expected to communicate further details in due course.
Adamu’s arrival in Uganda represents his first major assignment since he was confirmed as CAF’s substantive General Secretary at the organisation’s Executive Committee meeting on Thursday.
He succeeds Véron Mosengo-Omba, who recently assumed the presidency of the DR Congo Football Federation.
Adamu’s confirmation marks a new chapter in his career within African football administration, having previously served as CAF’s Director of Competitions and later Director of Tournaments and Events before taking on the role of Acting General Secretary.
His first official engagement in Uganda places him at the centre of CAF’s preparations for the 2027 AFCON, as the governing body continues to work with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to ensure the host countries meet the requirements for staging the tournament.
The 2027 edition will be jointly hosted by the three East African nations, marking another major milestone in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations and providing an opportunity to showcase football across the region.
