NWFL Premiership Super Six: Seyi Olaoye frustrated after goalless draw with Abia Angels
Nasarawa Amazons assistant coach Seyi Olaoye has expressed disappointment after his side were held to a 0-0 draw by Abia Angels on Matchday 4 of the NWFL Premiership Super Six in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Despite dominating possession and creating several clear chances, the Lafia-based side were unable to convert their superiority into goals in a tightly contested encounter that ended goalless.
The result left Nasarawa Amazons sitting third on the table with seven points, level with Bayelsa Queens but behind on goal difference in the race for the top spot.
Speaking after the match, Olaoye admitted the outcome was frustrating given his team’s performance. He noted that Nasarawa Amazons had shown improvement compared to their previous outing, particularly in possession and chance creation, but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.
He also referenced a late opportunity from the penalty spot in the 90th minute, which failed to change the outcome, while stressing unity within the squad. According to him, the team must avoid blame games and remain focused collectively, regardless of results.
Olaoye maintained that there were no internal issues in the squad and insisted the team had performed strongly throughout the tournament so far.
Looking ahead to their decisive final group match against Rivers Angels, he said the objective is clear: maximum points. He added that the team will also be watching the outcome of the clash between Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens, which could influence final standings.
The coach also dismissed any notion of a rivalry between Nasarawa Amazons and Abia Angels, noting that while Abia Angels had taken four points off them this season, previous meetings had largely gone in Nasarawa’s favour. He described it as part of football’s natural unpredictability rather than an emerging rivalry.
