Nigeria U-18 hockey5s teams with bronze at maiden Youth African Cup
Nigeria’s U18 men’s hockey team has won the bronze medal at the inaugural U18 Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Nigerian youngsters secured third place in the men’s competition following an impressive campaign at the tournament, held at the Sikh Union Club from August 6 to 8, 2026.
Hosts Kenya emerged champions to claim the gold medal, while South Africa finished as runners-up and took home the silver.
The tournament also served as the African qualifying competition for the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup, scheduled for December 2026.
With their bronze-medal finish, Nigeria secured a place among Africa’s representatives at the global tournament, alongside champions Kenya and runners-up South Africa.
The Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup featured both men’s and women’s competitions and represents an important step in the growth and development of the fast-paced Hockey5s format across Africa.
