Nigeria unveil final 12-man squad for 2025 FIBA Afrobasket
Nigeria have confirmed their final 12-man roster for the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket Championship in Angola, with interim head coach Mohammed Abdulrahman leading the charge.
Headlining the squad is NBA guard Josh Okogie, alongside defensive specialist Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, veteran forward Talib Zanna, experienced winger Stan Okoye, and guard Mike Nuga.
Also making the cut are forward Devine Eke, centre Christian Mekowulu, power forward Martins Igbanu, guard Ugo Andrew Simon, forward Emmanuel Omogbo, guard Ike Nwamu, and playmaker Caleb Agada.
The final list means Fola Fayemi, Kareem Joseph, and Mohamed AbdulSalam have been dropped from the provisional squad, while Peter Olisemeka was ruled ineligible.
Drawn in Group B, D’Tigers will face Tunisia, Madagascar, and Cameroon. They open their campaign against Madagascar on August 13 before taking on Tunisia and Cameroon in their remaining group games.
The 31st edition of AfroBasket will be co-hosted in Namibe and Luanda. Namibe will stage all group phase games, while Luanda will host select group fixtures and the entire knockout stage.
Nigeria’s last AfroBasket outing in 2021 ended in heartbreak as they crashed out in the pre-quarterfinals to Uganda. Since taking charge during last year’s qualifiers in Tripoli, Abdulrahman has steered the team to victories over Libya, Uganda, and Cape Verde to secure their place in Angola.
As part of their build-up, D’Tigers played two warm-up games against Guinea in Tunisia, winning 78–73 on Thursday before narrowly losing 68–65 on Friday. They have now arrived in Angola to continue preparations, aiming to mount a strong title challenge when the tournament tips off from August 13 to 31.
