Obafemi Hamzat Clinches APC Governorship Ticket for Lagos 2027 Election
Obafemi Hamzat has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election following a landslide victory in the party’s primary election.
The Lagos State Deputy Governor secured 657,917 votes out of 657,974 votes cast during the APC governorship primary held at the party’s secretariat in Acme, Ogba, defeating his sole challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, who polled one vote. Another aspirant, Samuel Ajose, withdrew before the exercise.
Chairman of the APC National Governorship Primary Election Committee, retired General Jon Temlong, announced the results and described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
The declaration ceremony was attended by key APC stakeholders, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), lawmakers, and party faithful.
Hamzat’s emergence follows earlier endorsement by the influential Governance Advisory Council, the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos State, which adopted him as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the primary.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, GAC members, and party supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
“With humility, I accept the candidacy of the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections,” Hamzat stated.
He also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his leadership and contributions to the development of Lagos State.
The APC governorship candidate further unveiled a developmental blueprint tagged “My Lagos Dream,” which he said encapsulates his vision for sustaining growth, improving infrastructure, and advancing socio-economic development across the state.
Hamzat, who has served as Lagos State Deputy Governor since 2019, is widely regarded as one of the leading technocrats within the APC political structure in Lagos.
