More than 3,000 runners have registered for the 2026 Abeokuta 10KM Race, with just five days to go before the much-anticipated road race takes place on Saturday, October 3, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

 The impressive turnout has heightened expectations ahead of the fifth edition of the race, organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited.

 The race will begin at 7am from Macjob Grammar School, Onikolobo, and finish at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto. The route will take participants through several parts of Abeokuta, offering spectators an opportunity to experience the city’s vibrant character.

 A major feature of this year’s edition is its decision to make the event a 100 per cent indigenous Nigerian athletes’ competition, with only Nigerian runners eligible to participate.

 Beyond the competition and prize money, the Abeokuta 10KM Race is also expected to provide a boost to the local economy by creating business opportunities for traders and small-scale enterprises along the route.

 Food vendors, transport operators, artisans, hospitality providers and other businesses are expected to benefit from the increased activity and movement of people across different parts of the city.

 With athletics, culture, tourism and commerce coming together, the event is expected to offer residents and visitors more than just a road race when Abeokuta hosts the competition on October 3.

Top sports administrators, active and retired athletes, sports enthusiasts and people from various walks of life are expected to attend the event.
