President Tinubu appoints 39-year-old tech scholar Prof Segun Aina as JAMB registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), following the expiration of the tenure of Professor Is-haq Oloyede on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, a renowned academic and systems expert, is set to become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB. The Computer Engineering professor, who turns 40 in July, is widely respected for his expertise in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform.

Aina earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent before proceeding to Loughborough University, where he obtained both a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing.

He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, when he first worked with the examination body and gained experience in admissions management and data driven institutional operations.

Over the last 15 years, he has built a reputation at the intersection of technology, governance, and public-sector transformation, advising federal and state governments on digital transition, systems development, and operational reforms.

He has also consulted for examination bodies such as National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly in the areas of ICT systems, examination integrity, and process optimisation.

Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would deploy his extensive experience and innovative insight to further strengthen JAMB and build on the achievements recorded during Oloyede’s tenure.
