Sapphire Nigeria Women Football Supporters Club set tone tor fifth annual International Day of the Girl Child

The Sapphire Nigeria Women Football Supporters Club has announced plans for its fifth annual International Day of the Girl Child celebration, set for Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Albati Barracks Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, starting from 7:00 a.m.

This year’s edition, themed “The Girls I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crisis”, will highlight the critical role of the girl child in tackling climate change and other pressing environmental challenges.

As part of its unique blend of advocacy and sports, the 2025 programme will feature a football competition, engaging participants while promoting empowerment and leadership through teamwork. Other activities have also been lined up to inspire girls to take on greater roles within their communities.

A press conference will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Sapphire office, Surulere Lagos, to provide further details about the celebration and rally support from stakeholders, partners, and the general public.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jadesola Adelabu, President of the Supporters Club, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to championing the rights, development, and leadership of the girl child through football and advocacy.

“This year marks a special milestone for us, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that the voices of girls are heard and their contributions to addressing global challenges are recognized,” Adelabu said.
