Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali part ways with Chippa United

Nigeria’s Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has officially ended his stay at South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United following a mutual termination of his contract.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper, who rose to prominence after an impressive outing with the Super Eagles at the last Africa Cup of Nations, had been strongly linked with a move away from the Chilli Boys amid their struggles in the relegation zone of South Africa’s top flight.

After failing to secure a transfer during the last summer window, Chippa United confirmed on Thursday that Nwabali’s request to leave the club has now been approved.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the club said in an official statement.

The club also expressed its appreciation for the Nigerian international, praising his commitment, professionalism, and years of service during his time in Gqeberha.

Nwabali joined Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League giants Enyimba in 2022 and went on to establish himself as a key figure at the club. He made over 75 appearances across all competitions, recording 25 clean sheets.

Now a free agent, the Super Eagles goalkeeper is expected to seal a move to a new club in the coming days as he looks to take the next step in his career.
