Khun Khalifat quit NPFL in protest over 10 million Naira fine and points deductions
Kun Khalifat FC have officially pulled out of the Nigeria Premier Football League, announcing an immediate exit after receiving what they described as harsh and uneven disciplinary measures from league organisers.
The privately run top flight club confirmed the decision through a press release on Tuesday, where owner Kun Khalifat criticized the punishment issued over the team’s failure to honour one scheduled league match. League authorities sanctioned the club with a three-point and three goal forfeiture, along with a ₦10 million fine.
Club management insisted they submitted legitimate reasons for missing the fixture but said their explanations were dismissed without fair consideration. The owner argued that the ruling reflects a troubling pattern in how disciplinary matters are handled.
“This punishment is not only unacceptable but a clear indication that the league’s management is more interested in penalising clubs than fostering growth and development,” the statement read.
Kun Khalifat FC stressed that it has consistently worked to meet regulatory standards while committing major resources to squad building and facility upgrades. The club said those investments now feel devalued by what it views as a one sided decision making process.
“As a club, we have always strived to comply with the league’s rules and regulations and have made significant investments in our team and infrastructure,” the statement added.
“It is disheartening to see our efforts undermined by an organisation that seems to prioritise punishment over fairness and justice.”
Explaining the withdrawal as a reluctant but necessary move, the club said it cannot continue operating within a structure it believes puts revenue ahead of club development and welfare. It also urged other NPFL teams to push for structural reforms and improved transparency.
Kun Khalifat FC concluded by appreciating its supporters and partners, while revealing plans to pursue other competitive avenues to keep promoting its players and contributing to Nigerian football growth.
