Super Falcons players alleged theft of over $1,250 at team hotel in Morocco
Nigeria’s senior women's national team have alleged that more than $1,250 was stolen from players’ wallets while the team was lodged at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco.
The incident reportedly occurred during the team’s stay at the hotel, with several players discovering that cash kept in their wallets had gone missing after housekeeping services had attended to their rooms.
Sources close to the team revealed that the missing money belonged to multiple players, with the combined amount exceeding $1,250, raising concerns over the security of the delegation’s accommodation.
The alleged theft has since been reported to the hotel management, which is understood to have commenced an internal investigation into the matter. Security personnel are also expected to review surveillance footage and other relevant records to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The development has caused unease within the Super Falcons camp, with players expressing disappointment over the alleged breach of trust at a time they are focused on their continental assignment.
Neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) nor the hotel had issued an official statement on the matter at the time of filing this report.
The Super Falcons have been based in Casablanca throughout their participation in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the team maintaining its preparations despite the off-field distraction.
Investigations into the alleged theft are ongoing, with both the team’s officials and hotel management expected to work with the relevant authorities to establish the facts and recover any missing property.
