Tinubu, Akpabio, 97 Senators Back Creation of Anioma State — Sen. Nwoko

President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and no fewer than 97 senators have expressed support for the creation of Anioma State, according to Delta North Senator, Ned Nwoko.

Nwoko disclosed this over the weekend during the Izu Anioma Towns Union event in Abuja, where the maiden Anioma Cultural Festival (Anioma Day) was unveiled.

He said the proposal for Anioma State has gained significant momentum following overwhelming legislative backing and broad regional consensus.

According to the lawmaker, the bill—which he first introduced two years ago—seeks to create Anioma State from nine local government areas in Delta North, including four from Aniocha and Oshimili, two from Ika, and three from Ndokwa. He added that some neighbouring communities, such as Igbanke, have also indicated interest in joining the proposed state.

Nwoko described the level of political and legislative support for the move as “unprecedented in Nigeria’s state creation history.”

“Only one state will be created in Nigeria, and that one state will be Anioma,” he declared.

The senator further revealed that both the Senate and House Committees on Constitutional Amendment, which include representatives from all states, have agreed that the South-East should be given a sixth state to ensure regional balance.

He noted that Anioma remains the most viable option before the committees and has received the endorsement of Senate President Akpabio and President Tinubu, who reportedly pledged full support once all constitutional conditions are met.

“We have done our homework. A lot of lobbying, contacts, and consultations are ongoing. Nothing is being left undone,” Nwoko added.
