Nigeria’s men’s volleyball team made a winning start to their campaign at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship after sweeping Chad 3-0 on Wednesday.

The Nigerian side produced a dominant display to secure victory with set scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-6 in their opening match of the continental championship in Tunisia.

Nigeria established control from the opening set and maintained their advantage throughout the contest, giving Chad little opportunity to mount a comeback.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with the Nigerian players maintaining their composure and efficiency to take another 25-17 victory and move within one set of completing the sweep.

Nigeria then stepped up their performance in the third set, completely overwhelming their opponents to win 25-6 and seal a convincing 3-0 triumph.

The result gives Nigeria an ideal start to their campaign as they seek to make an impact at the continental championship.

The Nigerian team had secured their place at the tournament after an impressive showing at the West African qualifiers in Abidjan, where they remained unbeaten and defeated Benin Republic 3-1.

The 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship is being held in Tunisia from September 15 to 25, with the competition bringing together some of the continent’s leading volleyball nations.

Nigeria will now turn their attention to their next fixture as they seek to build on the emphatic opening victory and strengthen their position in the competition.
