Warri Wolves to appeal NPFL sanctions, seek leniency after suspects' arrest

Warri Wolves FC have announced plans to appeal the sanctions imposed on the club by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), seeking leniency following the arrest of the suspect allegedly involved in the post-match assault on a match official.

In a statement addressed to the club’s supporters and stakeholders, the Seasiders said the appeal would highlight the club’s efforts to apprehend the suspect, video evidence reportedly showing the club cautioning the individual, and the subsequent arrest.

While acknowledging the seriousness of the incident, Warri Wolves said they respected the league’s disciplinary process and remained hopeful that their appeal would receive favourable consideration.

The club also outlined the potential impact of the sanctions on its league position, noting that if the points deduction stands, they would drop from 12 points to nine and fall from 14th to 17th place on the NPFL table.

Describing the situation as a difficult moment for the club, Warri Wolves urged their supporters to remain calm, united and steadfast in their backing of the team.

“Warri Wolves is bigger than any individual, administration, coach or player. It is a legacy we must all protect,” the statement read.

The club called on its supporters to continue standing behind the team while awaiting the outcome of the appeal, expressing hope that the matter would receive fair and compassionate consideration.

The statement concluded with the club’s rallying message: “One Club. One Identity. One Warri Wolves.”
