William Troost-Ekong calls for greater consistency after Super Eagles defeat
Former Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong has called on Nigeria's national team to show greater consistency following their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Troost-Ekong made the call during an interview with beIN Sports, stressing the need for improvement across all levels of the national team setup.
“We are at a point where we need to see some consistency and think from the top down. I think the talent is there in abundance,” the former defender said.
His comments came after Nigeria suffered a heavy defeat in Bissau, a result that has raised further concerns about the Super Eagles' performances and consistency under head coach Eric Chelle.
Despite the setback, Troost-Ekong remains confident in the quality available to Nigeria. He believes the team possesses enough talent to compete at the highest level but needs a more consistent approach to achieve its potential.
The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to their remaining AFCON 2027 qualifying matches as they look to recover from the defeat and improve their chances of securing qualification for the tournament.
