‘I took the chance’ - Ijamilusi ecstatic over two assists in Nigeria’s win over Comoros

Nigeria forward Folashade Ijamilusi says she was delighted to make an impact after coming off the bench in Nigeria’s 5–0 victory over Comoros, describing her assist as an important moment in her effort to demonstrate her ability.

Ijamilusi, who earned a late call-up as replacement for injured Asisat Oshoala, was introduced after captain Rasheedat Ajibade was forced off with an injury, giving the forward an opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s performance.

The China-based substitute welcomed the chance to show what she could offer, stressing that she was determined to make the most of the opportunity presented to her.

“I thank God for the opportunity. Also to the coaches and officials for the opportunity. I was so happy when I came in,” Ijamilusi said.

The forward acknowledged Ajibade’s contribution before her withdrawal and said she was eager to take advantage of her own opportunity when she entered the game.

“Ajibade was doing well when she was on the pitch. When I was introduced, I took the chance to show that I can also deliver,” she said.

Ijamilusi’s contribution was boosted by an assist, which she described as exactly the kind of impact she had hoped to make during the encounter.

“The assist was a good thing for me because this is what I wanted,” she added.

Her performance offered another option for the Super Falcons as the coaching crew continues to evaluate players and build depth within the squad.

The 5–0 victory over Comoros gave Nigeria an opportunity to assess different combinations, while Ijamilusi’s contribution demonstrated the importance of substitutes being ready to make an impact when called upon.
