CAF begins host nation inspection ahead of AFCON 2027 in East Africa

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set in motion its inspection programme for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with teams of technical experts already touring the three host nations Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Following the successful staging of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, focus has now shifted to East Africa as preparations gather pace for the continent’s flagship tournament. As part of this process, CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and members of the CAF Executive Committee are scheduled to be in Tanzania on Friday, February 13, 2025.

CAF’s technical inspections began earlier this week and will run until Tuesday, February 17, as the governing body applies its stringent, world-class hosting standards. The assessment covers key areas such as pitch quality, safety and security, stadium infrastructure, training facilities, and other critical venues earmarked for use during the tournament.

The inspection tour commenced in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, before moving on to Arusha and Zanzibar. In Zanzibar, CAF experts are assessing the Amaan Stadium and Fumba Stadium, the latter identified by the Tanzania Local Organising Committee (LOC) as a potential tournament venue.

From Tanzania, the CAF delegation will head to Kenya, where inspections will include Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo Stadium, and Talanta Sports Stadium. Training facilities such as the Ulinzi Sports Complex and the Kenya Academy of Sports are also on the schedule.

In Uganda, CAF officials will visit Entebbe and Kampala to inspect the Mandela National Stadium and designated training sites, alongside the Hoima City Stadium in Hoima.

CAF has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the three host nations, their governments, and Local Organising Committees, as preparations intensify towards delivering a successful AFCON Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania 2027.
