DR Congo U-23 to host Nigeria behind closed doors in 2028 Olympic Qualifier
Democratic Republic of Congo’s U23 national team will clash with Nigeria’s U23 squad behind closed doors in the first leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying series.
The match is scheduled to take place at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi, one of only two venues in DR Congo currently approved by CAF for international fixtures, alongside the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.
Local authorities confirmed that spectators will be barred from entering the stadium as part of strict security measures designed to maintain order and guarantee player safety throughout the event.
The security precautions come during a busy period for Congolese football. The TP Mazembe Stadium is also slated to host upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches for the senior national team, the Leopards.
Nigeria’s Olympic side will be aiming to grind out a favorable result in Lubumbashi to carry a crucial advantage back home for the decisive second leg as both nations fight for a spot at the 2028 Summer Games.
