Nigeria’s Falconets have completed the final phase of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with the team now in Katowice ahead of their opening Group F fixture against Spain.

The Nigeria U-20 women’s national team departed their training base in Trzebnica on Thursday and moved to the Novotel Katowice Centrum, where they will put the finishing touches to their preparations for Monday’s crucial encounter.

Head coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew spent 10 days in Trzebnica working on the team’s tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and overall cohesion.

The camp also allowed the players to acclimatise to the Polish environment and improve their match fitness ahead of the global tournament.

The Falconets completed their pre-tournament programme unbeaten, recording a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland before playing out a 1-1 draw against Korea Republic in their final warm-up match.

Mary Mamudu was instrumental in both games, scoring the winning goal against Poland before finding the net again against Korea Republic to underline her impressive form heading into the tournament.

The two friendly matches provided Aduku and his assistants with an opportunity to assess the squad against different styles of opposition while testing the players under conditions similar to those expected at the World Cup.

With the Trzebnica training phase now concluded, attention has shifted fully to Monday’s meeting with Spain as Nigeria begin their campaign in Group F.

The Falconets have been drawn alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia in the group.

Following their opening match against Spain, Nigeria will face China PR on September 10 before concluding their group-stage campaign against New Caledonia on September 13.

The Falconets will be hoping their unbeaten preparation, coupled with the work completed during the 10-day training camp, gives them a strong platform to make a positive start to their World Cup campaign.

And for Aduku’s side, the opening clash against Spain represents an immediate test of Nigeria’s ambitions, with a positive result likely to provide significant momentum for the remainder of the group stage.
