2027 Presidency: Top Nigerian Cleric Warns Peter Obi Against Accepting VP Slot

By Priscilia Adeyemi

Rev. Dr. Jerry Nwachukwu, a prominent Pentecostal cleric from Anambra State, has issued a stern warning to Peter Obi regarding his rumored political moves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Nwachukwu strongly advised Obi not to accept a vice-presidential position—especially not as a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

"Accepting to run as vice president would be a grave political mistake for Peter Obi," Nwachukwu cautioned.
"It would completely demoralize the Obidient Movement and those who see him as a beacon of hope for Nigeria."

According to Nwachukwu, the implications of such a decision could be far-reaching:

"His supporters do not see him as a deputy. They see him as the leader who can bring transformative change," he said.

The cleric warned that any attempt to play second fiddle could permanently damage Obi’s credibility and political brand.

"He would lose more than he gains. It could be the end of his political journey if he makes that compromise."

The warning comes amidst growing political realignment and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections. While some reports suggest that Obi has joined a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu, others hint at efforts to pair him again with Atiku.

Nwachukwu believes Obi's appeal goes beyond party affiliations.

"Peter Obi’s popularity cuts across political lines. He has what it takes to rally Nigerians from every region and background," he stated.

He concluded by urging Obi to either run for president or step back entirely:

"If he cannot run as a presidential candidate, it is better for him to stay away than to play second fiddle."

As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 elections, political analysts and citizens alike will be closely watching how Peter Obi navigates these critical choices.
