Abia Angels edge Bayelsa Queens in Yenegoa friendly

Abia Angels claimed a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Bayelsa Queens in a friendly encounter played on Saturday at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

The hosts made a flying start, opening the scoring just two minutes into the game. Wuraola calmly converted a free kick to put Bayelsa Queens ahead and ignite the home crowd.

Despite enjoying much of the possession and creating chances in the first half, the Prosperity Girls were unable to extend their lead. Abia Angels grew into the game and were rewarded late in the half when Yemilo Blessing found the equaliser, ensuring both teams went into the break level at 1–1.

The visitors took control after the restart. Dakachi Ekezie struck early in the second half to give Abia Angels the lead, before Chimezie Ekezie added a third goal to deepen Bayelsa Queens’ woes.

Bayelsa Queens pushed for a comeback and were given hope when Bankole Sofiat pulled one back, but Abia Angels held their nerve in the closing stages to secure the win and silence the home supporters.

Speaking after the match, Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance despite the defeat.

“Yes, I’m pleased with the standard of play. We created lots of chances, but sometimes in football you have off days,” Ogbonda said.

“This was just a friendly match. We will go back and work on our shortcomings before the league resumes on February 18, 2026,” he added.
