BAL deepens community drive, targets six new courts across West Africa

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is expanding its community development footprint across West Africa, with six new or refurbished basketball courts scheduled to be unveiled across the region over the next three weeks.

The projects will deliver modern and accessible playing spaces to six communities, providing young people with facilities where they can develop their basketball skills while also creating avenues for wider community engagement.

Rather than focusing solely on the growth of basketball, the BAL says the initiative is designed to use the sport as a platform for connecting communities, creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation. Each project carries its own local significance but contributes to the league’s broader community development vision.

The latest intervention is also part of the BAL’s long-term ambition to support the construction and refurbishment of 1,000 basketball courts across Africa, reinforcing its commitment to expanding access to quality sporting infrastructure.

Beyond the physical structures, the initiative is expected to contribute to youth development by creating safe spaces where young people can participate in sport, sharpen their talents and build stronger relationships within their communities.

With the latest projects, the BAL is positioning basketball not merely as a competitive sport but as a tool for social development, using improved infrastructure to open new pathways for young Africans and leave a lasting impact beyond the basketball court.
