Continental exit comes with consolation as Rivers United, Shooting Stars eye $100,000 CAF reward
Rivers United and Shooting Stars may have seen their continental campaigns cut short at the qualifying stage, but the Nigerian clubs are still in line for a combined financial reward of $100,000 from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The two NPFL representatives failed to progress to the next round of their respective CAF inter club competitions but are reportedly set to benefit from the financial package allocated to participating clubs.
Rivers United's CAF Champions League journey came to an end against Ivorian side San Pedro after a closely fought encounter that finished 3-3 on aggregate, with the Nigerian club unable to secure the result needed to advance.
Shooting Stars also bowed out at the qualifying stage, ending their hopes of making the group phase of the continental competition.
Despite their early exits, the reported $100,000 reward provides some financial relief for both clubs as they turn their attention back to domestic football and the remainder of the 2026/27 season.
