Former Super Eagles star and global sports ambassador, Daniel Amokachi, has earned another prestigious international recognition after being named a United Nations Football for the Goals (FFTG) Champion, joining an elite group of football personalities committed to advancing global development and social impact initiatives.
Amokachi was selected alongside several renowned figures in world football, including legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti, Brazilian icon Zico (Arthur Antunes Coimbra), former England international Eni Aluko, Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti, South African star Thembi Kgatlana, South Korean legend Park Ji-sung, Venezuelan international Deyna Castellanos, and other distinguished football ambassadors from across the globe.
According to an official communication signed by Roberto Skinner, Deputy Director of Outreach in the United Nations Department of Global Communications, Amokachi will become part of a select network of influential players, former players, coaches, executives, and media personalities who use their platforms to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As an FFTG Champion, the former African football great will help amplify campaigns, mobilize communities, and advocate for critical global causes including equality, inclusion, climate action, health, education, and human rights.
Reacting to the honour, Amokachi expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the new responsibility.
“I am delighted to be named one of the United Nations Football for the Goals Champions. It means a lot to me, and I am ready to work with other members of the team to achieve success on this journey,” he said.
The Football for the Goals initiative is a United Nations platform that harnesses the global appeal and influence of football to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
By bringing together key stakeholders from the football ecosystem, the programme seeks to inspire positive action and contribute to building a more sustainable, inclusive, and peaceful world.
Amokachi’s appointment further underscores his growing influence beyond the football pitch, reinforcing his status as one of Nigeria’s most respected sporting ambassadors on the global stage.
