Super Falcons WAFCON 2026 camp near full strength
The Nigeria's senior women's national team preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations have gathered momentum, with only six players yet to join the squad in Casablanca as Nigeria intensifies its build-up to the tournament.
Head coach Justine Madugu put 15 players through another training session at the La Noria Club on Sunday evening, while more members of the squad continued to arrive at the team's base, the Hotel Marriott.
Among the latest arrivals were BK Häcken duo Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa from Sweden, while Pachuca Tuzas defender Osinachi Ohale and striker Chinwendu Ihezuo were also en route to Morocco, taking the number of players in camp to 19.
With the defending champions set to begin their title defence against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, preparations have now entered the final phase as the coaching crew fine-tunes tactics ahead of the opening fixture.
Already in camp are captain Rasheedat Ajibade, first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Shukurat Oladipo, Rofiat Imuran, Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Sikiratu Isah and Christy Ucheibe, midfielders Toni Payne, Jennifer Echegini and Halimatu Ayinde, alongside experienced forwards Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Omorinsola Babajide, Joy Omewa and Chinwendu Ihezuo.
Only six players are now expected to complete the 25-player squad. They include defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Deborah Abiodun, and forwards Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Uchenna Kanu.
With the squad steadily reaching full strength and competition for places intensifying, the Super Falcons remain firmly focused on defending their continental crown as they continue preparations for another WAFCON campaign in Morocco.
