Enugu SWAN extends condolences to Late Christian Chukwu's family
The Enugu State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has officially visited the family of the late Christian Chukwu, a former Nigerian international footballer and coach, to offer their condolences at his home in Enugu.
The delegation, led by State Chairman Gideon Iwueke, aimed to show support for the grieving family and to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the football icon.
After signing the condolence register, Iwueke urged the family to remain resilient during this challenging period, emphasizing that Chukwu's death represents a significant loss not only for Nigeria and Enugu State but also for the international sports community.
"Christian Chukwu provided us with countless reasons to celebrate, both as a player and a coach, at the state and national levels," Iwueke remarked.
"As representatives of SWAN, we are here to extend our support. We are also in touch with the national organization and anticipate their visit to pay their respects shortly," he continued.
Iwueke also mentioned that the Enugu SWAN chapter would conduct regular visits and collaborate closely with the burial committee to ensure that Chukwu’s funeral is thoroughly covered and appropriately represented by the association.
He concluded by praying for the eternal peace of Chukwu’s soul and for divine strength for the family to endure this profound loss.
Joining Iwueke during the visit were the Chapter’s acting Secretary, Chibuike Peter; Treasurer, Chibuzor Nwoye; and Financial Secretary, Godwin Unogwu.
