Tolu Oguntimehin seeks members' support ahead of FCT SWAN Chairmanship Election
Chairmanship aspirant of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, Tolulope Oguntimehin, has appealed to members to support his ambition ahead of the association’s election scheduled for November 13, 2026.
In a message addressed to SWAN members, Oguntimehin described 2026 as an opportunity for the association to reflect on its activities, assess its current standing, acknowledge past mistakes and chart a new course based on fairness, equity and equal opportunities.
He said his vision was to build an FCT SWAN chapter that would command respect and earn recognition on the same level as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
According to the chairmanship aspirant, achieving such an ambitious goal would require collective commitment, inclusiveness and the support of members, regardless of their backgrounds or locations.
While acknowledging that he might not be perfect, Oguntimehin described his passion for the association as genuine and expressed his determination to contribute to its growth and institutional development.
He explained that his decision to contest for the chairmanship was driven by a desire to reposition the chapter and create an environment where every member would have equal opportunities to contribute to and benefit from the association.
"That vision is why I am putting myself forward for the chairmanship, and I cannot achieve it without your support," he stated.
Oguntimehin consequently urged members to vote for him at the November 13 election, which will take place at the National Stadium, Abuja.
He concluded his appeal with a call for collective action, adopting the campaign slogan: "Let's Make FCT SWAN Great Again!"
The forthcoming election is expected to give FCT SWAN members the opportunity to elect new leaders who will oversee the affairs of the association in the coming years.
