Eric Chelle names Victor Osimhen, 23 others for Super Eagles World Cup Playoffs in Morocco
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a 24-man squad led by in-form Victor Osimhen for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff in Morocco next week.
Osimhen, who fired a hat-trick to secure Nigeria’s spot in the playoffs, headlines a strong list that also includes team captain William Troost-Ekong, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders Calvin Bassey and Zaidu Sanusi, and midfield generals Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi.
Maduka Okoye makes a long-awaited return after serving a ban, while winger Chidera Ejuke also rejoins the squad for the first time since October 2024. Bright Osayi-Samuel is back in contention after missing the last international window, and promising young defender Benjamin Frederick earns another call-up.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semifinal of the African Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Inter-Continental Playoffs, scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday next week. The other semifinal will see Cameroon lock horns with DR Congo.
Winners of both ties will advance to the final on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium, with kickoff set for 20:00 local time (same as Nigerian time).
