FC Basira outclass Mighty Jets in NNL opener
Lafia-based FC Basira kicked off the 2025/26 Nigeria National League season in style with a commanding 3–1 victory over Mighty Jets FC of Jos in the league’s curtain-raiser on Saturday.
Played at the Lafia Township Stadium, the opening fixture marked the official start of the new NNL campaign and was graced by the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.
The home side stamped their authority early on, with midfielder Abubakar Yusuf netting a quick brace in the 5th and 39th minutes to hand the Baffa Boys a comfortable lead going into halftime.
Mighty Jets looked livelier after the restart, but it was FC Basira who struck again almost immediately through winger Peter Eneji, whose long-range effort made it 3–0. The visitors managed to pull one back in the 62nd minute, courtesy of an Emmanuel Iliya own goal, but it proved only a consolation as Basira held firm to seal a deserved win.
Despite creating several more chances, FC Basira’s finishing let them down, or the scoreline could have been more emphatic.
The Lafia outfit will next travel to Ilorin to face ABS FC on Matchday 2, scheduled for November 22, 2025, at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
Meanwhile, the remaining Matchday 1 fixtures across the various NNL groups will take place next weekend at designated venues nationwide.
