Golden Eaglets shine as four Nigerians make WAFU-B U-17 Group stage Best XI

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have stamped their authority on the 2025 U17 WAFU B Boys Tournament, with four players named in the competition’s group stage Best XI released on Monday.

Manu Garba’s boys, who face Ghana in Tuesday’s semifinal clash, were among the standout performers in Yamoussoukro, and their dominance has now been rewarded.

Hat-trick hero against Benin Republic, George Agha, team captain David Edeh, elegant left-footed defender Godwin Menyaga, and skillful winger Boluwatife Thompson all earned places in the star-studded XI. The remaining slots went to players from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

Thompson has been particularly eye-catching, influencing goals in the opener against Benin before delivering a Man of the Match performance in the second group game against Burkina Faso. His form will be crucial as Nigeria chase a spot in the final and qualification for next year’s U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Golden Eaglets will battle rivals Ghana on Tuesday night at Stade Charles Konan Banny, Yamoussoukro, with kickoff set for 8 p.m, Nigerian time. The other semifinal will see hosts Côte d’Ivoire square up against Burkina Faso.
