Governor Oborevwori Rewards Team Delta with Cash Bonuses for Historic NSF Triumph
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved cash rewards for Team Delta athletes and officials following their dominant performance at the 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba.
The decision highlights the governor’s commitment to sports excellence and athlete welfare, as Team Delta secured its eighth championship title in ten editions. Some athletes who won seven to eight individual gold medals will receive ₦7 million to ₦8 million, further emphasizing the administration’s dedication to rewarding outstanding achievements.
Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, praised the move, calling it a motivational boost for the team as they prepare for the Gateway Games Ogun 2024. Similarly, Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero, described it as a well-deserved reward that will inspire greater performances.
At the 21st NSF, Team Delta made history by winning 576 medals, comprising 280 gold, 167 silver, and 129 bronze, reaffirming its status as Nigeria’s sports powerhouse.
Governor Oborevwori has consistently supported athletes, having previously approved cash incentives for National Youth Games champions. His latest gesture ensures Team Delta remains motivated for future competitions, setting the stage for another dominant outing.
