Rivers United await CAF Champions League group stage opponents

Nigeria’s flagbearers in the CAF Champions League, Rivers United, will discover their group stage opponents next week, Monday, November 3.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Interclub Group Stage Draw will be held at SuperSport Studios in Johannesburg, starting at 14:00 South African time (1:00 p.m. Nigerian time). The event will be streamed live across CAF’s official digital platforms.

Sixteen clubs will be drawn into four groups of four, with matches kicking off later in November. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals as the quest for continental glory heats up.

For Rivers United, this marks a historic moment, their first-ever qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage. The Pride of Rivers secured their place after overturning a first-leg deficit to defeat Black Bulls in Uyo last Saturday.

Goals from Wasiu Falolu and Maclyn Biokpo handed Rivers a solid first-half advantage before Moctar Diallo pulled one back for the visitors. However, Timothy Zachariah’s late strike sealed a dramatic aggregate win and booked Rivers United’s passage to the next round.

So far, 14 clubs have confirmed their spots in the group stage, with two more berths to be decided when Pyramids FC face RS Berkane and Ethiopian Insurance take on Al Ahly Tripoli in their postponed second-leg fixtures next week.

The 2025/26 CAF Champions League group stage will feature some of the continent’s biggest names, including defending champions Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns, Esperance Tunis, and AS FAR Rabat, alongside debutants Rivers United.

Confirmed CAF Champions League Group Stage Teams:
