HerGame Championship: Fosla Academy edge Horvel Prime as Generation Next shine on opening day

The 2025 HerGame Girls Football Championship kicked off in Abuja on Saturday, with defending champions Fosla Academy beginning their title defence with a hard-earned 2–1 win over Horvel Prime.

Generation Next produced the standout performance of Matchday One, cruising to a dominant 5–0 victory over Emirates Queens. SIK Paragon and BIA Ladies also opened their campaigns with narrow but crucial wins against Jeremiah Angels and Gwagwalada Ladies respectively.

The competition, staged at the Area 3 Sports Complex, runs from November 29 to December 6. Although 24 teams initially registered, only 16 were confirmed for participation and placed into four groups of four.

With only the top two teams in each group advancing to the quarterfinals, every match of the group stage carries significant weight — ensuring a highly competitive week of grassroots women’s football.

Matchday Two on Sunday promises another action-packed schedule featuring eight fixtures. Emirates Queens will look to bounce back when they take on Nasarawa Shooting Stars, while in-form Generation Next face Talent Developer in Group A.

In Group B, M Squared meet SIK Paragon in a potentially decisive matchup.

Later in the afternoon, Fosla Academy return to action against Ladi Kwali, before Horvel Angels close the day’s proceedings with a clash against EUPA Angels.

The early results signal an exciting edition of one of Nigeria’s most promising platforms for emerging female football talent.
